Restricted feeding window
Fasting mimicking and health
The health benefits of fasting are pretty amazing! There are different forms of fasting that you can use. Window feeding is where you eat for a window of time. It can be a 10 hour window all the way down to a 4 hour window. We all fast when we sleep so it's just a matter of eating your first meal later than you normally would. It's good to start with an hour or two later at first then it becomes a fun challenge to see how long you can go. There's also fasting mimicking where you fool your body into thinking it's fasting but you consume very small amounts of nutritious liquids or soups three times a day so it's not an absolute dry fast or wet fast. And there's what this video above suggests which is to eat only 1 meal a day. When you start restricting calories in any of these ways you keeping your body a lot healthier. We were never physically designed to have food available at all times. When we were hunter gatherers we would go through periods of imposed fasting because there just wasn't food around all the time. Our bodies are genetically geared for this type of fasting. It puts us in ketosis where we utilize our own fat stores and ketones for fuel and that helps keep us lean and blood sugars and cholesterol levels at a healthy level. I've also learned, personally that I can function quite well being a little hungry. We've been programmed to believe that whenever we're 'hungry' we should eat and the quality of food, our sedentary lifestyles have led to an epidemic of overweight and obesity, heart disease, pre-diabetes and diabetes and cancer. These diseases are quite reversible with good eating habits, fasting, exercise and sleep.
